OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH & SAFETY

ISO 45001:2018

DOES YOUR COMPANY INVEST IN MISS-OUTS?

More than 250,000,000 – that is the number of on-the-job accidents worldwide in the year 2007. A horrible figure in light of the many lives that have been affected, but also alarming in respect of the costs organizations have to bear on account of working time lost – not to mention the burden placed on social systems for treatment and disability payments.

At the same time, an increasing number of companies throughout the world choose to implement occupational health and safety management systems. And where that happens, the number and severity of on-the-job accidents and job-related health damage are in sharp decline. In these companies, workplace health and safety is considered a management responsibility, in order to take better care of employees and to set an example for others. Simultaneously, corporate perspective is shifting more and more towards a process-oriented, holistic view of jobs and work flows, now viewing them from a quality, environmental, and workplace safety standpoint.

OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH & SAFETY TRAINING

The occupational health and safety training provides an overview of the requirements of the OHSAS 18001:2007 standard. The course outcome is applicable to all levels of employment and provides for a thorough basis of awareness and understanding of basic ISO requirements and applications. On completion of these courses you will have a clear appreciation of the requirements of the ISO Standard as well as a better understanding of how it applies to the day-to-day operation in the workplace.

COURSE DURATION:  1 DAY

COURSE SUMMARY:
OH&S 18001 is technically a British standard that the world has adopted; it is not officially an ISO standard. The changes that are currently under-way aim to:

  • update the standard as the last update/revision was 2007
  • bring the standard in-line with the new Annex SL
  • make it an International standard rather than a UK standard

Annex SL defines a common high-level structure for all new and revised ISO management system standards – using common text in the standards. This will also have a significant impact on the revisions of ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 – currently being prepared.

The high level structure of the standard will be:

1. Scope
2. Normative references
3. Terms and definitions
4. Context of the organisation
5. Leadership
6. Planning
7. Support
8. Operation
9. Performance Evaluation
10. Improvement

Clauses 4, 5, 9 and 10 are significant deviations from the present ISO management system standards.

With the successful completion of this course the participant will be able to:

• Have a good overview of the development and evolution of the new standard
• Have a good understanding of the new requirements
• Have a good knowledge of the actions required to achieve a successful transition

Who should attend?

This programme is designed for ALL functions and levels of an OHSAS 18001 certified organization that needs to gain knowledge of the differences in the new standard. In particular, this course is suitable for personnel assigned to ensure a successful transition to the new standard.
