How to transition your company to FAMI-QS version 6
Version 6 of the certification system FAMI-QS will be launched in the first half of 2019 and companies certified as FAMI-QS compliant will be able to undergo auditing to convert the certification to the new version from April 2019 onwards. Version 6 of the FAMI-QS has an entirely new structure and contains new requirements for certified sites.
Changes in version 6
This new version has brought in a new need to reflect on actions which can prevent fraud and contamination, as based on the specific risks in your site.
Version 6 now follows the ISO High-Level Structure and allows FAMI-QS to align its code more closely with other management systems. The ISO High-Level Structure is used for all ISO management system standards published from 2015 onwards, including ISO 14001:2015, ISO 2200:2018 and ISO 45001:2018. This harmonisation will make the integration of the various standards easier for those companies that have implemented multiple systems standards.
Version 6 also places more emphasis on risk-based thinking and the process approach, enabling the development of the FAMI-QS Process documents. These documents provide guidelines for managing the hazards that are associated with each process and have become part of the code.

Arrangements for the transition period
All sites must have demonstrated conformance with and been audited for compliance with FAMI-Qs version 6 by October 1, 2020. Certification bodies will be allowed to issue version 6 certificates from the 1st of April 2019. Sites that are currently certified to version 5.1 and who have an accreditation audit scheduled for before this date, will be recertified to version 5.1 and will transition to version 6 during their first surveillance audit after 1 April 2019.
