The Automotive industry is notoriously strict (and rightfully so) when it comes to auditing of its management systems. One mistake can cost millions in terms of lives lost, statutory liability and recalls. For this reason, all organisations involved in the design, development, manufacturing, installation or servicing of automotive products have to comply with stringent requirements set out by the IATF (The International Automotive Task Force), a group of automotive manufacturers and their respective Trade Associations, aimed at providing improved quality products to automotive customers worldwide.
IATF 16949:2016 was published as the global technical specification and quality management standard for the automotive industry. To ensure alignment with ISO standards, and in particular ISO 9001 (Quality Management System requirements), the IATF cooperates on an ongoing basis with ISO through a liaison committee.
